Time management is a hot issue in today’s world. With as many things in our lives and all the options we have it certainly feels like time is against us. We do not have enough time for our work projects, for our family life, for our personal hobbies – for anything and everything there is not enough time. So it seems time is not on our side.
I am an eclectic person, my interests can be all over the place. Because of that I tend to take on too much, or at least attempt too much. I want to learn to play several musical instruments, I want to learn several languages, to become a master carpenter, to be a world traveler, to be an inventor, to pursue multiple degrees. While the desire may be there there is simply not enough time to accomplish it all.
I read an article a few years ago that stated the problem isn’t time management but personal management. It’s not so much we’re mismanaging our time but ourselves. After reading it I started looking at all I want to accomplish and started prioritizing them. I also took inventory of what I do with my time. I noticed that I had the time to learn a musical instrument or language but instead I watched tv or got sucked into a vortex of viral videos. I had the time, I just didn’t manage myself well.
What about you, do you have things you want to accomplish but haven’t yet? Is it truly because you don’t have enough time or are you wasting it through personal mismanagement? It’s no easy task switching from doing nothing to doing something – not easy but not impossible. Start by taking an inventory of what you want to accomplish, make a list and prioritize it. Then start looking at how you spend your time. In most cases you’ll find the time is there it’s just a matter of taking advantage of it. Time is on your side, are you?
Attempt it. Chance it. Try it. Get to It!
