[/x_custom_headline][x_gap size=”50px”][/cs_column][/cs_row][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”2/3″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]Get to It! is the simple idea that we all have things we want to do or try but for whatever reason we don’t always pursue them.  Yet, when we do pursue them are lives become fuller because we are pursuing not things we have to but those things we want to. We start getting to life.

Get to It! is about more than succeeding in everything you try, though. It’s about attempting the things you always wanted to do but never did. It’s about taking a chance on those things that seem impossible. And it’s about trying something because you won’t know until you do.

So what are the things you have always wanted to do? Is it traveling to Paris or Rome? Maybe it’s learning a new language, or learning how to sow. Perhaps you always wanted to paint or learn to dance. Maybe there’s a new dish you want to learn how to cook. Or you could simply want to live a healthier, more physically fit life. Get to It! isn’t about becoming the next Monet, Beethoven or Gene Kelly. It’s about finding your passions and pursuing them.

So what are you waiting for?[/cs_text][/cs_column][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/3″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]

Life isn’t about the good luck or bad luck that comes your way, it’s how you react to it.

[/cs_text][/cs_column][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”2/3″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]It’s not just seeing others improve but I myself want to continually improve, to the best I possibly can. As is the norm with life the motivation came in ebbs and flows but it was turning 30 that really got me going. It was then I ran my first 5k and started on the path to a good healthy lifestyle. I ran a 10k the following year and a half marathon the year after. But it was not just physical exercise. I was swing dancing fairly regularly, I was active in Young Professionals of Knoxville, even went and saw the last shuttle launch in July. Then in mid August I started having problems with my legs and my life changed.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]
The Diagnosis

After running the half marathon in April I started training for a full marathon in August. It was then my legs started to feel weaker and have a constant tingling. It was much like the sensation you get when your legs falls asleep and you try to wake it up but my leg never woke up, it tingled constantly. I made an appointment with my doctor and over the next 5-6 months I had tests and examinations done to figure it out. While the diagnosis was being determined I still lived. I completed a 10 mile mud run, ran that 5k as a Ghostbuster, worked on the Extreme Makeover house, all with weak legs and balance issues. Finally near the end of March 2012 I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS).

That was a bit of a shock. All I knew about MS before the diagnosis was that it affected people’s mobility. The time around my diagnosis was my worst. My balance was really bad and my legs were so weak it was a chore to go up and down stairs. However, I refused to take the elevator. I was determined to live like I had no matter what. After getting some medication into my system my strength and balance has come back around 80-85%. I still have problems every so often but I am determined to live life to its fullest. It was this determination that brought about Get to It![/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][cs_text]

The Aha, Get to It! Moment

I still tried to run as best as I could. It was during one of those runs Get to It! came about. Here I was running with weak legs. So I figured if I can do that in my new circumstance why shouldn’t others feel like they could pursue their passions the same. Life isn’t about the good luck or bad luck that comes your way, it’s how you react to it. Get to It! is about encouraging others to find and pursue their passions, just as I am finding and pursuing mine. In the end it’s about people – people and their dreams. It’s about taking the time to Attempt it. To Chance it. To Try it. To Get to It![/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_creative_cta padding=”20px 20px 20px 20px” text=”Attempt it.
