It was a well written show that portrayed the office life in all its fullness, quirks and all. Even with all the over embellished antics the coworkers did everything was still very plausible in an actual workplace. The key to the dynamic was Michael Scott – the fearless leader who knew no boundaries, no tact, no filter, no sense of appropriate office conversation. Yet, he knew people and knew how to make a sale. And this is where Michael Scott got it right. In spite of his many flaws he knew one thing, it is about people.

In our pursuit of our passions and our better selves it is of utmost importance that we remember it is about people. You may want to learn how to swing dance but that does not mean leaving your pregnant wife home alone several nights a week. I may want to learn to paint but that does not mean I spend all my money on paint and forget to give to charity. Companies and governments may want to create better products and better societies but that does not mean trampling over others along the way. When all is said and done it is people that matter most.

History is full of stories of people forgetting it is about people. From the more obvious WWII and Hitler, slavery, and large corporations to the lesser recognized treatment of Native Americans, eminent domain laws taking people’s land, and even the seemingly insignificant act as rudely dismissing the girl scout trying to sell cookies. Just because a story does not make headline news does not make it any less part of history or matter any less. How we treat each other matters greatly. We should take heed to history and take a few minutes to make sure that as we pursue our passions we do not forget that it is about people.

As we travel through life, learning new things, experiencing new things, and meeting new people let us remember that it is about people. Our goals and passions may be personal but a healthy lifestyle knows how those goals and passions fit in a world with others. By all means, learn how to swing dance but always remember your wife first. Learn to paint but do not forget others in need. Create a better product and society but think of how these things will last to the seventh generation. Keeping the checks and balances in our lives will help us to remember it is about people.

So get out there, live life, pursue you passions. Find ways to not just make yourself better but others as well. Make the world a better place for all, not just a few. When we get that ingrained in us then we can truly pursue our passions in the purest and best way. Always remember, Michael Scott was right, it is about people.

Attempt it. Chance it. Try it. Get to It![/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section]
