We Landed on the Moon Yo, Awesome

Fifty years ago three guys rode an exploding silo over 220,00 miles and stepped out onto the void of the moon. That’s an incredible feat. To me that is awe inspiring. To others that “was fifty years ago.” To those others I can only say “I pity the fool.”

It’s the Moon, Yo

I can understand how we can become complacent with things, how we get jaded, even how we lose our sense of wonder. When things become common place we take them for granted. When we are bombarded daily with this cause or that issue it can be too much at times. And when we are surrounded by wondrous things it’s easy to lose sight of the specialness of them. But landing on the moon?

That’s an incredible feat, after all, it’s the moon, yo. This is something that is orbiting the earth over 220,000 miles away. The celestial object that creates our tides – we landed on that. And not just once, we went there six times. This is not a trip to the grocery store, it’s the moon. I think it’s just cool to think about.

Moxy and Awe

I love space, I love science. It’s all incredible and amazing. But it’s more than just space and science, it’s the achievement, it’s the bigness of the pursuit, it’s the moxy to point up in the night sky and announce, “I’m going to land on that some day.” It’s also in the moments we step back and look at the accomplishments of it all. Not just in what we have accomplished ourselves but what others have accomplished. It’s in the quiet moments we observe the wondrous nature God accomplished. It’s in both the moxy and awe. So tonight look up and realize just how incredible it all is – both the moon itself and how there are footprints there. We landed on the moon yo, awesome.

Attempt it. Chance it. Try it. Get to It!
