Does being gluten and dairy free help with MS symptoms? That’s a great question and one for which I simply don’t have an answer. On day 25 I initially thought it was helping out but then later rethought that position. Now that I am at day 45 my position is the results are inconclusive at this time.
Now, I do have 15 more days and things can change but as of now I don’t have enough data to show that it is helping. My initial thought that it was helping coincided with warmer weather. Since then the temperature has been up and down and with that up and down my symptoms have been up and down. This is something that is a normal thing for me. When it gets colder, as I have said before, my symptoms get worse and warmer weather makes it better. That is exactly what has been happening since day 25 with the up and down of the temperatures. I would have figured that if the gluten and dairy free diet were to make a difference I would notice it, even if just slightly. Yet, so far this winter has been no different than the previous 5 winters since my diagnosis.
With that said I will not say it is not working simply because there is no noticeable difference. I have heard of others with MS who have changed their diet and that change has helped tremendously with their symptoms. Most cases I have heard about are people whose symptoms have progressed further than mine, some even in wheelchairs. Granted, their change in diet were stricter than mine and were not just gluten and dairy free. Yet I will not discount their experiences and their results. It may be the case where their symptoms had progressed further than mine and the change in diet put them back to where I am at and going gluten and dairy free will not take one any further. There are too many variables at play to know for certain. What I do know is there are no noticeable changes for me with this diet. I still have 15 more days left and in those 15 days I might start noticing a difference. Until I reach the end of the 60 days though I will still continue being gluten and dairy free.
That’s where I am at with my challenge, where are you at with yours? Have you started? Still procrastinating? Remember, it’s never too late to start and never too later to think of one. So get out there and try sometime you have always wanted to try – you never know until you do!
Attempt it. Chance it. Try it. I have been busy the past few days so I have not had time to cook or try new recipes. I relied on sandwiches and gluten free bread as I have made before.
