Do Today What You Can Start Tomorrow

Before my MS I was fairly active. I ran, swing danced, was active in professional and church groups. After my diagnosis my activity leveled dropped. Looking back I can see how dramatically it did drop. I didn’t become a hermit but I didn’t do nearly as mush as I once did.

One of the things that dropped was my cooking. I was still a cooking novice but what I did know was good and healthy. Because my cooking at home lessened I began to eat out more, or what I made at home was pre-made, frozen and unhealthy.  As a consequence to eating less healthy and not being as active I gained 45lbs.

When I realized what was going on I made a few changes. I starting eating better and have tried to become more active. I dropped 15lbs as a result. However, the other 30lbs have been a bear to lose. It comes in ebbs and flows, I’ll continue to eat better and lose some weight. Then something will come up and I won’t eat as well and I’ll gain the weight right back. This carousel is annoying and I want it to stop.

I’ve been meaning to write on this topic ever since my lost post. Due to the past holiday weekend I haven’t had a chance until now. But the idea of doing today what I can start tomorrow has been drumming in my head. Every time I eat some chips or drink sweet tea, that saying has become a mantra in my head – “Do today what you can start tomorrow.”

For this post’s topic it’s about eating better today, not waiting until tomorrow. But there are many other things that the mantra applies to in my life. And sometimes it’s not about starting something but about stopping something. Whatever it may be, a vice to get rid of or a healthy habit to start, we need to stop star gazing in the future “I’ll start tomorrow, honest” and start addressing the present by doing today what you can start tomorrow.

Attempt it. Chance it. Try it. Get to It!
