I am in a holding pattern pattern with Farmer Dale’s Dilemma until the children’s book conference in September. At the conference I hope to get more clarity, direction and hopefully some leads on publishers and literary agents. Until then I will continue to develop other works.

Frustration and Observation

Holding patterns happen sometimes, and that’s ok. When we are out there attempting this or that sometimes there will be lulls. The interesting thing about holding patterns though is they provide at the same time both frustration and an opportunity for observation.

They can be frustrating because you are almost at your destination but can’t yet land. You have traveled many miles to get there. You have spend the past 30 minutes descending as you get closer and closer to the landing strip. You see it below, you can see the numbers on the landing strip, you can see the movement of other planes. You are there, just another 5 minutes to land but you are put in a holding pattern by the traffic control tower. So you begin to circle your destination but never able to land. A holding pattern, whether in a plane or in life, can be frustrating. You are essentially there but you can’t land just yet.

On the other hand holding patterns provide an opportunity for observation. As you are circling the airport waiting for clearance to land you can look more closely at the terrain below. You can notice better that most of the planes on the ground are small commuter planes. You see that the paint on the tarmac and runway need to be repainted. You observe the tower is in an excellent location. You can see the airport is actually right in the middle of a suburban area. You notice many houses have swimming pools. Being in a holding pattern gives you more time to observe what is down below, giving you get a better, fuller picture of what the destination is and has to offer.

While I may be in a holding pattern with Farmer Dale’s Dilemma I am going to take the opportunity to observe what lies below. I will look to learn more, observe more, read more, even look to create contacts that may be beneficial later on. Even though I am in a holding pattern there is still much I can do and observe. It’s not the lulls that should concern us, it’s what we do during them. I might be waiting for a few weeks until the writers conference but that does not mean I completely stop.

That is where I am at, in a holding pattern with Farmer Dale’s Dilemma, yet that is not where I stop. I continue to do what I can while I wait. And in addition to the Farmer Dale’s Dilemma challenge I have another challenge in the works. I don’t want to go into it just yet as it is not a complete sure thing but hopefully next week I will be able to tell you my next challenge. Until then I am in a holding pattern with one challenge but still working on others. You may be in a holding pattern as well. If you are, while you wait work on something else or work on what you can. We only live once so let’s make it great.

Attempt it. Chance it. Try it. Get to It![/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section]
