It was not just small, short, unfinished rainbow but it was a large, bright, colorful one that arced across the sky. It was a Kodak moment type of rainbow, one where it was worth stopping for a moment to observe. My reason for being downtown was to take drop off some documents to the city. Both my hands were full so I decided to take that picture on my way back to the car. When I finally came back by twenty five minutes later the rainbow was gone. I missed my opportunity to take the picture. It was the classic case of could, woulda, shoulda, but never did.
The missed rainbow is, unfortunately, not the only time I coulda, woulda, shoulda but never did something. My life is full of them. From playing sports to trying my best in school, from financial opportunities to simply asking someone out – the coulda, woulda, shoulda can be considered my mantra. I hate that. I do not like the idea of missing out on things, on life experiences, on new trials, new fortunes, serendipitous occasions. The idea of missing out on opportunities is about to drive me crazy. And so I have decided not to miss them any more.
The reasons for missing the opportunities vary. At times I have been timid and scared, other times I have been distracted by how I think things should go, still others have been missed because I was just too lazy to pursue them. Yet, whatever the reasons may have been I missed the opportunity. That has to stop. If I am scared or timid I need to man up and get courage. If I have been distracted by things not flowing the way I think they should go I have to reevaluate and adjust. If I am just too lazy I need to get my butt in gear and actively pursue. It was me who missed the opportunities in the past but the good news is I can change that. I can grab a hold of them in the present. No more coulda, woulda shoulda but never did.
What about you? What opportunities have you missed in the past? How many times can you say about yourself that you coulda, woulda, shoulda, but never did? Inevitably we will all have those moments, the key is to minimize them. Life is about taking hold of those opportunities that come our way and owning them. It is about meeting people who can later help you find a job. It is about learning how to say hi in Spanish and then conversing with Hispanics years later. It is about looking up from your phone and meeting the love of your life. Opportunities missed never come back, so do not miss them.
When we are out there living life let us take hold of what comes our way. Let us own the opportunities. Let us not be distracted by the flow of things, let us not be scared or timid or lazy but let us flow in a self-confident energy. Let us break away from the coulda, woulda, shoulda, but never did to just the “I did!” We got this.
Attempt it. Chance it. Try it. Get to It![/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section]
