There is a documentary that I recently watched titled Happy. It explores the different notions of what makes one happy and whether they are sustainable or not. It is a good documentary that while I don’t agree with every conclusion I would say as a whole it delivers valuable information.
One of the most poignant conclusions is the idea that intrinsic goals/values out weigh and are more lasting than extrinsic. Among the intrinsic are three main values – personal development, relationships/community, and giving back. Here is a clip explaining them.
It is the three intrinsic values that Get to It! is founded on. I believe that we are born with a desire to do something, to be something. It is over the years that desire is discouraged, forgotten, quashed or just outright abandoned. Some of us need those desires and passions reignited, and it all starts with the three intrinsic values of personal development, community, and giving back.
Over the next few months I will be developing the idea of what those mean and how we can pursue our passions in a balanced and fulfilling manner. Be thinking on what the three intrinsic values mean to you. What is personal growth? What is community? What/how do I give back? Think on those and in the mean time, keep thinking and keep doing!
Attempt it. Chance it. Try it. Get to It!
