Shattering the Glass Ceiling

It seems everywhere one turns there is someone saying no. “You can’t do this, you shouldn’t do that.” What makes it even more irritating is that it has permeated all areas of life – personal and professional – by all means – family, education, businesses, government. It’s time to shatter all these barriers.

America is supposed to be the land of opportunity where one can start with nothing more than a dream and through hard work and perseverance that dream can be achieved.  There is no cap to the dreams, no ceilings above to stop us. Our only ceiling should be the one we put on ourselves, not what others put over us. I for one am tired of having my head bruised on the glass ceiling others put over me just so their ego won’t be.

How am I go to about it? By simply doing and not listening to the nay-sayers or ceiling makers. If I so choose to learn to speak another language then I will. It may be broken for a while and I may always speak it with an accent but I will not be told I cannot do it. I may choose to run a marathon and though I may take three times longer than others I will not be told I cannot do it. I may choose to visit another country and though it may take 15 years to save the money I will not be told I cannot do it.

If you are like me the top of your head is all bruised from bumping your head on the glass ceiling others have put there. But just as records are made to be broken so are glass ceilings made to be shattered. Keep pushing through, keep pounding away because sooner or later that glass will crack. And when that time comes you need to be ready – get to shattering the glass ceiling.

Attempt it. Chance it. Try it. Get to It!
